Your Holiday Home in the South of France
Sanilhac (along with its neighboring village, Sagries) is a small commune in the Uzege, adjacent to the natural area of the Gorges of the Gardon. It is very authentic, not only with its buildings, but also with its people; not just a tourist village like some.
Sanilhac has one of the best bakeries in the area, which people travel from all around to frequent and attend baking classes and special events (like the Truffle Epiphany in January). The bakery also runs a tea and sandwich shop and on sunny days, the village square is full of locals, hikers, and bikers, enjoying their wares. There is also another restaurant and bar in town which hosts monthly pop musical events, karaoke nights and moules frite specials.
The natural area of trails through the high garrigue is walkable from the house as far as you'd want to go, destinations including the Gardon river for a refreshing swim, an ancient hermitage, original capitelle structures, as well as the neighboring village of Collias (for canoeing) and even the Pont du Gard, about 10 miles away.
Uzes, the delightful gem of a city, is about a 10 minute drive away and includes multiple restaurants, shops, events, and one of the best twice weekly year-round open air markets in the area. There is a local bus service, Edgard, which has a stop in Sanilhac and travels to all local and farther afield destinations (even the beach).
